The 2019 powered Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) could be folded to fit into a 6u-sized payload box. At main chute deployment (1500 ft), the box was ejected from the airframe so the UAV could unfold, deploying its wings and propeller, and engage powered flight. The UAV employed a COTS Pixhawk altimeter and GPS to navigate to a safe recovery site, and an ultrasonic sensor to perform a safe landing. It was also capable of streaming video footage to the ground station using COTS radio control hardware. The structure consisted of carbon fibre spars, craft plywood, insulation foam and 3d-printed components.
