The 2022 payload builds on previous CubeSat standard iterations by implementing an SRAD avionics stack, deployed solar panels, attitude determination using computer vision, communication downlink, and complete structural redesign.

PYLD-22 still relies on the COTS Pi Compute 4 computer for command & control and for computer vision, but relies on an SRAD stack for sensor and power management to meet the new power generation requirement and save space.

Due to part order cancellations as a result of the global chip shortage, PYLD-22 could not be constructed in time for Spaceport America Cup 2022, and PYLD-21 was instead flown as a mass simulator, carrying a payload of french fries.
